Founder. Inventor. Artist.

I am Yendi Serwaa—artist, inventor, and founder of Yendi Collections, a grooming tools brand
built at the intersection of thoughtful design, cultural intelligence, and functional innovation.

Before entering entrepreneurship, my work was rooted in the arts. Creativity has always guided
how I see the world. That same creative instinct, paired with lived experience, ultimately led me
to reimagine a category that had long overlooked textured and locked hair.

Like many people with tightly curled hair, I encountered daily grooming tools that caused
unnecessary pulling, scalp discomfort, and frustration—tools not designed with hair like mine in
mind.

A Considered Beginning

During the COVID-19 pandemic, that frustration crystallized into clarity.

I envisioned a grooming tool that could move through textured hair with ease, support loc
maintenance, and offer a gentler, more intentional experience. Using a wide-tooth comb from
my vanity, I created an early modification—adding rounded tips to the teeth—and tested it.

The result was immediate. The comb glided through textured hair and locs without snagging,
while also providing a soothing scalp massage. What began as an intuitive experiment revealed
itself as a purposeful design.

From Concept to Protected Design

I conducted extensive research—online and across beauty supply retailers throughout Los
Angeles—to determine whether a tool like this already existed. It did not.

Recognizing the originality and functionality of the design, I worked with a patent attorney and
was issued both utility and design patents, formally protecting what would become Yendi’s
3-in-1 Comb
.

Designed to Work With the Hair

Yendi’s 3-in-1 Comb was created to make grooming more comfortable, efficient, and respectful
of textured and locked hair. The patented design supports detangling, loc maintenance, and
scalp stimulation—without unnecessary tension or breakage.

While developed with natural and loc’d hair in mind, the tool has also been embraced by:

  • Professional stylists seeking gentler grooming solutions
  • Parents prioritizing comfort during children’s hair care routines
  • Individuals who value a more refined, thoughtful grooming experience

A Purposeful Path Forward

My transition from artist to inventor was guided by intention—creating something both meaningful and enduring. Yendi Collections exists to offer grooming tools designed from lived experience, refined through design, and built to last.

The response from our community continues to affirm this work. It is deeply rewarding to know that a tool created with care has improved everyday rituals for so many.

If you value grooming tools designed with intention, cultural understanding, and integrity, you are in the right place.
